Printer-friendly version LoopyCMS Administration - SiteManDateline: September 18, 2003
Ok, I'm not gonna say too much about SiteMan, just a few points. It does many of the same things as you have seen in other applications and a couple of things more. It is, as mentioned in the Site Configuration section, unsafe to run unprotected. The worst that can happen with most of the applications in the LoopyCMS is that someone uses an unsecured copy of the application to deface your site. There's no reason for that to happen, because it's pretty simple to secure the application from unintended users. If you use the development workstation/production server model (recommended for business sites), there's no need to install administrative tools on the production server, anyway. So if you are in doubt on whether you need siteman or if you would simply prefer not to chance it, just don't configure SiteMan to run on your site. I've run it on my site for several years now without a problem, but I have it well secured. The main reason I use it is so that I can upload graphics to the site when I'm publishing while out of town.
If you do run it, the site browsing method we've seen before is here, but on top of that, SiteMan can also do the following extras:
I think you see why I offer the warning about security, because the application is basically a file management application, like File Manager or Windows Explorer. Again, if you don't need it, just don't run it. On to the last section (phew!), Site Configuration. |
