Everyone makes mistakes.  If you manage to create a bad version of some content and say "Doh!", you may want to restore a previously edited copy of that content.  You can do that, because every time you save a piece of content, a backup copy of the previously edited version is created, with a timestamp to indicate the time down to the second, that the copy was created.

When you start a restore operation, you'll start with an overview of the process.

Select the content type

Select the piece of content.  If no backup copies exist (because it has not yet been edited from the original version), the file won't be listed.

Then, choose the version to restore.

Preview it, and if it's the right version, restore

Yes, the nice success message again.

"Ok", you say, "I messed up once, what if I restore the wrong version?" Well, no problem, just try again.  Every time you restore, you backup what you overwrote, first.

Easy peasy, right?  So what happens to all those backup copies?  I mean, you only need them for so long, right?  Well, let's read about how to get rid of some of the old stuff in Remove old backups.
